Dear Massachusetts Congressional Delegation,
I am writing on behalf of the 25,000 physician and medical student members of the Massachusetts Medical Society (MMS) to thank you for your leadership in passing the historic Inflation Reduction Act. The MMS has long supported many of the provisions in
this legislation, including the major reforms to prescription drug pricing, the extension of enhanced Affordable Care Act subsidies, and expansion of Medicare benefits. These provisions will lower health care costs, including prescription drugs, and
immeasurably benefit the physicians and patients of the Commonwealth by improving access to and affordability of care.
Over the past many years, through leadership of the Medical Society’s Committee on Environmental and Occupational Health, the Society has increased its policymaking and advocacy on issues at the critical intersection of environmental justice and public
health. The Medical Society applauds the critical $369 billion investment in climate solutions, which will make meaningful strides toward environmental justice.
Thank you for your continued leadership and support in passing this bold law, which will no doubt lower health care costs for so many in Massachusetts and establish critical policies to address our nation’s climate crisis. We look forward to continuing
our work with you and the Massachusetts Congressional delegation.
Sincerely,
Theodore A. Calianos II, MD, FACS
