Quality Payment Program: Six Options for 2017
- Report for the Full Year: Report all MIPS measurements. Makes you eligible for up to a 4-percent bonus payment in 2019.
- Partial Participation: Report on one or several MIPS metrics for at least 90 days. No penalty and possibly eligible for a small bonus payment.
- Perform a Test: Submit as little as one measure, or one clinical improvement activity on one patient, for CMS to test their system. No bonus, but no penalty either.
- Qualify as an Advanced APM: Contact your ACO, PHO or IPA to learn what category of APM you qualify for. Reporting may be done for you, you may receive a 5-percent update in 2019.
- Do Nothing: Penalty in 2019 of 4-percent payment reduction. The amount of this penalty increases each year, unless you are exempt.
- Exempt Practices: In December 2016 -- and every year in December going forward -- CMS will notify low-volume practices if they are exempt. Low-volume practices include practices that bill $30,000 or less in allowable Medicare charges or provide care to fewer than 100 unique Medicare patients. Also exempt are practices in their first year participating in Medicare.
