Barbara SpivakBarbara S. Spivak, MD
President, Mount Auburn Cambridge Independent Practice Association
President-Elect, Massachusetts Medical Society

Dr. Spivak has been an internist at Mount Auburn Medical Associates for over 35 years. She started at the Mount Auburn Cambridge Independent Practice Association (MACIPA) in 1997 and has served as its president and chairperson since that time. She also teaches in the Department of Medicine at Harvard University.

A member of the Massachusetts Medical Society since 2001, Dr. Spivak is a strong advocate for population health management, quality improvement, care management, and using data to inform strategies, and has served the organization in different capacities as chair and active members in several committees and task forces.

In May 2021, Dr. Spivak was awarded the Massachusetts Medical Society Special Award for Excellence in Medical Service, which honors a physician who has made a distinguished demonstration of compassion and dedication to the medical needs of his or her patients and the general public. Also, she was named the Community Clinician of the Year (CCYA) by the Middlesex District Medical Society in 2020.

Dr. Spivak is an active participant in the Massachusetts Health Quality Partnership (MHQP), representing MACIPA on the physician council, on the board, and served as its vice-chair. She also serves as a member of the state’s Quality Alliance Task Force. She is a long-standing member of the American Medical Association (AMA) Integrated Physician Practice Council. She participates on several Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) Technical Panels evaluating and developing outpatient quality metrics to be used for payment. She has been involved with both AMA- and CMS-sponsored committees looking at alternative payment models, trying to identify creative solutions for the current health care crisis.

Mark Keroack provides strategic, financial, and operational oversight for all services at Baystate Health and its subsidiary health plan, Health New England. Under his leadership, Baystate Health has expanded its clinical services, incorporating two new community hospitals and growing its outpatient practices across the region. The system has been a national leader in adopting population-based approaches to care, emphasizing prevention, wellness, care integration, and cost containment under a global budget.

Dr. Keroack served as Baystate Health’s chief operating officer from 2013 - 2014 and as its chief physician executive from 2011 - 2013. He came to Baystate Health from University Health System Consortium in Oak Brook, Illinois, where he served as chief medical officer for 10 years. Prior to his national work, he served on the faculty of UMass Chan for 12 years, where he focused on HIV and AIDS care and won five annual teaching awards. Beginning in 1995, Dr. Keroack took on a more administrative role, serving as the first president of the 700-physician UMass Memorial Medical Group. He has authored over 50 publications.

Dr. Keroack is a graduate of Amherst College and Harvard Medical School and received his MPH from Boston University. He trained in internal medicine and infectious diseases at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston. He serves on several local boards focused on improving the quality of life in his native Springfield and across western Massachusetts, as well as several state and national boards.


Michael K. LaufMichael K. Lauf, MBA
President and Chief Executive Officer, Cape Cod Healthcare

Michael K. Lauf has served since December 2010 as president and chief executive officer of Cape Cod Healthcare (CCHC), a regional health system with more than 450 physicians and 5,300 employees which is comprised of two-acute care hospitals, the largest home health services agency on the Cape (VNA), a skilled nursing and rehabilitation facility, an assisted living facility and numerous health programs.

Mr. Lauf served as the Cape Cod Healthcare System’s chief operating officer from 2008 2010. He was promoted to president of Cape Cod Hospital and Falmouth Hospital in 2010, before being appointed to his current position as president and CEO of the system.

During his tenure, CCHC has made great strides in operational and financial performance, while also developing a strong strategy focused on quality, service, access, and process improvement.

Prior to joining CCHC, Mr. Lauf served as chief Operating Officer of Bristol Medical Center, a 348-bed hospital in Bristol, Tennessee, part of the Wellmont Healthcare System. At Bristol, Mr. Lauf developed a hospital performance scorecard and cultivated service improvement goals among employees that have resulted in dramatically higher patient and physician satisfaction scores.

From 1999–2006, he held a variety of positions for Conemaugh Health System in Pennsylvania, including president and CEO of one of Conemaugh’s hospitals, Miners Medical Center. From 1994¬1999, he worked on the staff of U.S. Representative John P. Murtha, most recently as Rep. Murtha’s Director of Community and Economic Development.

Mr. Lauf earned his MBA from Saint Francis University in Pennsylvania and his BA from the University of Pittsburgh.


Christopher M. O'ConnorChristopher M. O'Connor, FACHE
Chief Executive Officer and President, Yale New Haven Health System

Christopher M. O’Connor is chief executive officer and president of Yale New Haven Health System (YNHHS), the largest and most comprehensive health care system in Connecticut that is recognized nationally for advanced clinical care. Prior to his role as CEO, Mr. O’Connor first served as executive vice president and chief operating officer when he joined the Yale New Haven Health System in 2012. Since being appointed president in 2020, he has been responsible for the operations of the YNHHS.

Mr. O’Connor served as president and CEO of the Saint Raphael Healthcare System and the Hospital of Saint Raphael until the successful affiliation with Yale New Haven Hospital in September 2012. Other previous roles included president of Caritas St. Elizabeth Medical Center, the 340-bed flagship of the six-hospital system affiliated with the Archdiocese of Boston and Tufts School of Medicine, and vice president of Clinical Operations for the Ochsner Health System in New Orleans.

Mr. O’Connor is a member of a few boards and serves as chair of the Connecticut Hospital Association (CHA). He is a fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE). Mr. O’Connor received his master of health services administration from George Washington University and his bachelor of arts in economics from George Washington University.
