Massachusetts Medical Society deems physician burnout a public health crisis

March 2019

The Massachusetts Medical Society, led by then-president Dr. Alain Chaoui, teamed with the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, the Harvard Global Health Institute, and the Massachusetts Health and Hospital Association to publish a paper on the prevalence and ramifications of physician and health care provider burnout and deemed the condition a public health crisis. The Medical Society was among the first organizations in the United States to bring the issue to the forefront and continues to address and correct factors that lead to burnout.
