In the two years since the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, Massachusetts, led by the Healey-Driscoll administration, has continued to safeguard access to reproductive health care, including abortion, ensuring access remains unfettered and protected under state law. Today’s executive order codifying access to emergency abortion care reinforces the Commonwealth’s commitment to enabling patients to seek guidance and care from trusted physicians without stigma or interference and ensures for providers the legal protections associated with providing this important care.
Abortion, like all aspects of reproductive care, is health care. Any barriers to access imperils our patients and worsens disparities in maternal health outcomes. The physicians of the Massachusetts Medical Society applaud the Healey-Driscoll administration for its unwavering commitment to protecting health care access in all its forms. We remain dedicated to providing safe, equitable, and medically appropriate care, fostering patient-physician relationships built upon trust and bodily autonomy.
