Andrew ChuWALTHAM – Dr. Andrew Chu, a resident physician in the Harvard Affiliated Emergency Medicine Residency (HAEMR) and concurrent innovation fellow at the MGH Healthcare Transformation Lab, is the recipient of the Massachusetts Medical Society’s 2022 Information Technology Award.

The honor recognizes the development of an information technology tool that helps physicians practice medicine, teach medicine, or pursue clinical research and comes with a $5,000 award.

Dr. Andrew Chu and Dr. Jared Conley, his fellowship director, co-created a pair of mobile apps - MGH ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) and PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) - used by clinicians for cardiac resuscitation at the bedside.

MGH ACLS was launched during the COVID- 19 pandemic, and there are currently nearly 30,000 clinician-users in more than 150 countries. It represents a collaboration with the American Heart Association to impact life-saving cardiac care through the use of digital health and already has more than 500 clinician users daily.

Chu is passionate about transforming health care through digital health and tech-enabled care delivery, with special emphasis on developing technologies that improve the care of patients with acute, life-threatening emergencies.

For his prior work in digital health and innovation, Chu received the American Medical Association Leadership, Massachusetts Medical Society Scholars, and the ECRI Health Devices Achievement awards.
