WALTHAM – Dr. Andrew C. Jorgensen, chief medical officer for Outer Cape Health Services in Provincetown, Wellfleet and Harwich Port, has been honored by the Massachusetts Medical Society as the 2022 recipient of the Society’s LGBTQ Health Award, an honor recognizing an individual who has made outstanding contributions to LGBTQ health.

“Dr. Jorgensen has championed various public health initiatives that directly impact the health and wellbeing of LGBTQ persons,” said Dr. Carl Streed Jr, who lauded Jorgensen’s efforts in amplifying public health messaging around STI outbreaks in Provincetown, HIV PrEP services and gender-affirming care in remote locations.

“Dr. Jorgensen has taken his significant administrative and clinical experience to serve an overlooked population – rural communities in some of the most vacationed parts of our nation,” Dr. Fatima Cody-Stanford said. “Throughout all the time I’ve known Dr. Jorgensen, he has remained a teacher and mentor to students, trainees, and early-career physicians, especially for LGBTQ people in medicine.”

A graduate of St. Louis University School of Medicine, Jorgensen is treasurer of the Massachusetts Chapter of the American College of Physicians.
