WALTHAM – Dr. Dennis J. Spencer, an instructor of pediatrics at Harvard Medical School and associate program director for the Boston Combined Residency Program for Boston Children’s Hospital and Boston Medical Center, has been honored by the Massachusetts Medical Society (MMS) as the 2024 recipient of the Grant V. Rodkey Award, an honor recognizing a Massachusetts physician for outstanding contributions to medical education and medical students.

“I have observed first-hand the impact (Spencer’s) leadership has had in our specialty organization, the North American Society of Pediatric Gastroenterology Hepatology and Nutrition (NASPGHAN),” Dr. Christopher Duggan said. “Dennis was instrumental in the genesis of the Diversity Equity and Inclusion (DEI) Special Interest Group there. While serving as this SIG co-chair, he helped establish a URiM summer research program to increase interest in pediatric gastroenterology among diverse trainees.”

An attending physician at Boston Children’s Hospital, Spencer is a graduate of Morehouse College and Weill Medical College at Cornell University. He earned a PhD from the Rockefeller University.
