WALTHAM – Dr. Emily C. Cleveland Manchanda, an emergency medicine physician and assistant professor of Emergency Medicine at Boston University Chobanian and Avedisian School of Medicine, has been honored by the Massachusetts Medical Society (MMS) as the 2024 recipient of the organization’s Barbara A. Rockett, MD Early Career Physician Leadership Award, which recognizes an early career physician who has demonstrated exemplary leadership in organized medicine, patient advocacy, and mentorship.
Cleveland Manchanda’s leadership extends beyond Massachusetts to the national level, where she is the director for Social Justice Education and Implementation within the Center for Health Equity at the American Medical Association (AMA).
In addition to her patient-facing work and advocacy leadership, she is the program co-director for the Ravin Davidoff Executive Fellowship in Health Equity at Boston Medical Center.
“I've worked with Dr. Cleveland Manchanda for two years. In our institution and nationally she has been a champion for equity for our patients and our staff,” Dr. James Feldman said. “Her dedication to equity and improving care is unparalleled. She has impacted many locally through her workshops and teaching. I was especially impressed with her advocacy for Black and Latinx patients during the pandemic when she raised awareness about the limits of crisis standards that were being discussed.”
