WALTHAM – Dr. Hanni Stoklosa, an Arlington resident and world-renowned expert on identifying and alleviating human trafficking, has been honored by the Massachusetts Medical Society (MMS) with its 2023 Henry Ingersoll Bowditch Award for Excellence in Public Health.

One of the Medical Society’s most prestigious awards, the Ingersoll Bowditch award is bestowed annually to a Massachusetts physician who demonstrates creativity, commendable citizenship, initiative, innovation and leadership in the public health and advocacy fields.

Stoklosa is co-founder and Chief Medical Officer of Health Education Advocacy Linkage (HEAL) Trafficking, a non-profit group she established to address the scourge of human trafficking through health care. She is an emergency physician at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and an assistant professor at Harvard Medical School.

“Dr. Stoklosa has demonstrated extraordinary leadership and attained a status of recognized national and international expertise in how to identify and care for victims of human trafficking,” Dr. Eric Goralnick said. “She has consistently demonstrated an unwavering commitment to humanitarian public health research and service by pioneering pathways, education and innovation in her field.”

Stoklosa is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania and Tufts University School of Medicine. She received a Master of Public Health from Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health.

“Since joining the faculty of Brigham and Women's Hospital almost a decade ago, Dr. Stoklosa has inspired me both personally and professionally,” said Dr. Scott Goldberg. “She is a model public health leader, respected by peers, patients, and her community.”
