WALTHAM – Dr. Kathryn A. Martin, a Winchester resident and reproductive endocrinology and menopause specialist at Massachusetts General Hospital, has been honored by the Massachusetts Medical Society as the 2024 recipient of the Women’s Health Award, which recognizes a physician for outstanding contributions advancing Women’s Health in Massachusetts. Candidates are nominated by their peers and selected by the Committee on Women’s Health.
“Kathryn Martin has devoted her career to women's health in Boston. She is a top menopause expert in the country, not just Massachusetts,” colleague Dr. Ann Taylor said. “She is the sought-out endocrinologist at Massachusetts General Hospital for management of menopause, female infertility, premature ovarian insufficiency, and polycystic ovary syndrome.
"On top of being the ultimate clinician, she is also an outstanding educator, sharing her clinical knowledge with a very large constituency to advocate for better women's health. She contributes as a writer and physician editor for UpToDate and has lectured around the world on women's health issues, especially related to menopause, menopausal hormone therapy, and reduction of risk after menopause."
As Chair of the Endocrine Society’s Clinical Guideline Committee, she oversaw the development of 15 guidelines, including “Treatment of the Symptoms of Menopause.”
Martin, a graduate of Dartmouth College and Dartmouth Medical School, is an assistant professor at Harvard Medical School. She has held several national leadership positions with the Endocrine Society, and in 2022 received one of the organization’s Laureate Awards, the Outstanding Educator Award. The Laureate Awards are presented annually to leading endocrinologists based upon leadership and mentorship, innovation, international contributions, and lifetime achievement.
