WALTHAM – Dr. Manisha Bahl, an associate professor of radiology at Harvard Medical School and Breast Imaging Division quality director at the Massachusetts General Hospital, has been honored by the Massachusetts Medical Society as the 2024 recipient
of the Women’s Health Research Award, which recognizes a physician for outstanding contributions advancing women’s health research in Massachusetts. Candidates are nominated by their peers and selected by the MMS Committee on Women's Health.
“Dr. Bahl's work on breast cancer spans from the role of risk assessment and screening for early detection to diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer,” colleague Dr. Geunwon Kim Sun said. “She has published more than 65 peer reviewed scientific articles
in prestigious journals, including Radiology, which is the premier journal in the radiology specialty. She also has published numerous review articles, book chapters and abstracts on breast cancer. The impact of her research is immediate. Dr.
Bahl's work on risk stratification of high-risk lesions, which are not cancer, has allowed for more women to forgo unnecessary surgeries for excisional biopsy. This work has transformed the way that surgeons counsel patients and allowed for more
clinically relevant surgeries to be performed at centers throughout the US.”
Bahl is a graduate of Stanford University and the University of California-San Francisco School of Medicine. She holds a master’s degree from Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health.
