WALTHAM – Dr. Olivia Liao, an ophthalmologist and principal physician with Lexington Eye Associates, has been named president-elect of the Massachusetts Medical Society, the statewide professional association of physicians and medical students.
Dr. Liao will assume the role of the Massachusetts Medical Society's president in May 2025, succeeding Dr. Hugh Taylor. In this capacity, she will lead the organization's efforts in advancing healthcare and supporting medical professionals across the state.
Liao has been a member of the Medical Society for more than 35 years, during which time she has served on multiple organizational committees. She is an active member and past president of the Middlesex District Medical Society and was the district's Community Clinician of the Year in 2019.
Dr. Liao's dedication to her profession is evident in her active membership in numerous medical societies. She is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the New England Ophthalmological Society, the Massachusetts Society of Eye Physicians and Surgeons, the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons, Women Ophthalmologists of Boston, and a Fellow at the American College of Surgeons.
She is a founding member and co-owner of Surgisite Boston and has held many leadership and committee positions at Emerson Hospital.
Liao is a graduate of Boston University and Boston University School of Medicine. She is an active volunteer for the Lions Club and the Community Council on Aging, conducting annual vision and glaucoma screenings and fundraising for Emerson Hospital's family health events. She has also served as the traveling doctor for the New England Conservatory piano department.
