Harvard Medical School student wins Massachusetts Medical Society essay contest

WALTHAM – Nicolas Trad, a member of Harvard Medical School’s Class of 2023, has been selected as the winner of the Massachusetts Medical Society’s History of Medicine Essay for 2023 with his piece entitled “Deconstructing PTSD: Human Responses to Trauma Across Historical and Geographical Boundaries.”

Trad was born in Washington, D.C., and grew up in Beirut, Lebanon. He graduated from Princeton University in 2017 with a degree in public policy and a minor in global health and health policy. He will graduate from Harvard Medical School in 2023 and plans to pursue a career in Internal Medicine and health policy research and advocacy. Trad is passionate about improving the quality, ease of access, and affordability of health systems to better serve patients.

The essay contest is sponsored by the Medical Society’s Committee on History and invites essays related to the history of medicine or public health in Massachusetts since the establishment of the Massachusetts Medical Society in 1781. Articles are judged on scholarship, originality, and clarity of expression.
