WALTHAM – Richard N.
Levrault, D.O, has been honored
posthumously by his peers of the Plymouth District Medical Society as the
district’s 2018 Community Clinician of the Year, an honor recognizing his
contributions and professionalism as a physician.
Dr. Levrault, who passed away
last May after a sudden diagnosis of advanced pancreatic cancer, was feted at
the district’s annual spring meeting April 5.
Dr. Levrault was born into a family
of 19 in Fall River. He graduated from UMass Dartmouth with a master’s in
mathematics. At the age of 28, he shifted
focus and started medical school. He
graduated from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1980 and
completed a six -year enlistment in the United States Army, earning the rank of
captain.
Dr. Levrault then spent 33
years running a local practice as a family physician in Canton and Seekonk with
his brother-in-law; Dr. Tim Lowney and
eventually was joined in practice by his daughter, Dr. Elizabeth Gebhard.
Plymouth District President Dr. Kevin McCarthy, who
nominated Dr. Levrault, said Dr. Levrault had a great sense of humor and was an
excellent clinician and “truly exemplifies what it means to be the clinician of
the year. He loved the art of medicine, his patients, and most of all, his
family.”
The Community Clinician of the Year Award was established in
1998 by the Massachusetts Medical Society to recognize a physician from each of
the organization’s 20 district societies who has made significant contributions
to his or her patients and the community.
