About the Worcester District Medical Society
The Society, founded in 1794, remains dedicated to helping physicians serve their patients and maintaining and improving the quality of health care. Worcester District Medical Society is part of the federation of organized medicine which includes the
Massachusetts Medical Society and the American Medical Association serving as an advocate for physicians and their patients. With its offices in beautiful Mechanics Hall, WDMS is the third oldest medical society in the United States and remains dedicated
to helping physicians serve their patients. The Medical Society publishes Worcester Medicine, a bi-monthly magazine focusing on national and local health care issues. Click here to view the current and past issues. If you wish to submit an article, please contact WDMS directly.
The Worcester Medical Library, Inc., was founded by the Society in 1798. Dr. Manjul Shukla elected by Worcester District Medical Society as 2023 Community Clinician of the Year
Dr. Manjul Shukla has been selected by the Worcester District Medical Society as its 2023 Community Clinician of the Year, an award that recognizes professionalism and contributions as a physician.
Shukla graduated from Gandhi Medical College in Bhopal, India. After finishing her residency at Worcester City Hospital, and five years of private practice, Shukla joined the Fallon Clinic, always focusing on taking care of her patients in the Worcester
community during her 40 years there.
Beside primary care, her medical interests include working with patients who have eating and substance use disorders, pain management and obesity issues. Additionally, she worked as the Medical Director of two nursing homes and hospice, which taught
her much about end-of-life issues.
Shortly after retiring, the COVID-19 pandemic compelled Shukla to utilize her medical expertise to help the Greater Worcester area. Under the leadership of the city’s commissioner of health and human services, Dr. Matilde Castiel, Shukla was a large
part of the effort to provide over 5 million vaccinations in the community, working at vaccine sites across the area.
Shukla enjoys teaching medical students, residents, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants and volunteering at her kids’ schools and with the Girl Scouts. She also enjoys painting, working at the India Society Free Clinic, working with the
public health department, which includes fond memories of working with Dr. Leonard Morse with the Community Immunity Program.
She is an active member of the WDMS Women's Caucus. She is also a member of the House of Delegates and sits on the Board of Trustees for Massachusetts Medical Society.
